No where in the Bible does it say we, humans, go to heaven.
When we die our body goes back to the earth, the spirit of the born again believers go to heaven.
In the beginning God came down into the Garden of Eden, we are told that He walked in the garden in the cool of the day. God was with man on earth at this time.
Then through Adam's sin God cursed the earth and returned back to heaven, the third heaven, which is His abode.
God sent His one and only son to earth... God with us Emmanuel
Matthew 1:22-25 (NKJV)
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.
But Jesus has to go back to heaven to be with the Father
John 16:5-12 (NKJV)
5 "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
And He ascended as he said he would, but He will come again as we know...
Acts 1:9-11 (NKJV)
9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."
Until Christ returns all saved souls, those born from above, are ambassadors for Christ, we have His work to do until he 'Returns in Glory'
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NKJV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Christ who is in heaven with the Father, will Return for His own, those born from above. He will descent from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with 'the trumpet call of God'
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NKJV)
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
This brings us to brother B-A-C's comments, we meet with the Lord in the air, then where do we go?
The answer I think, just sharing my thoughts, love to hear everey one else's thought on this, 'it depends when the Rapture occurs'
But we are told clearly...
v17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
If at this point we will always be with the Lord, surely this sounds like everything is done that is said to be done. The last day!
In many verses in John 6, Jesus says "I will raise them up at the last day".
John 6:39 (NKJV)
This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
John 6:40 (NKJV)
And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:44 (NKJV)
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:54 (NKJV)
Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 11:24 (NKJV)
Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
So could it be, we are raised up on the last day, to be with Christ in the air, at the point the heaven and earth is made new and the 'New Jerusalem' comes down from heaven onto the earth, just as John saw it and was told to write it down. We at that point enter the New Jerusalem for the banquet and are with the Lord forever.
I do believe when Jesus said he was going to create a place for us (born again believers) these rooms/mansions will be in the New Jerusalem, possibly around the internal perimeter as every room will be looking at the throne in the middle of the New Jerusalem, the Holy City. On earth!
John 14:1-3 (NKJV)
1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
No where in the Bible does it say we go to heaven, if someone can show me I would love to read it, the Bible always refers to 'God with us'.
God created earth for man, God wants to be with man on earth, Emmanuel God with us, first in the Garden of Eden, second when Christ came to earth, third when he returns and we will be with him forever.
Just trying to add together what we know so far, please add your thoughts also. Together we are the Body of Christ, the ekklesia, we will all come together to be with our Lord in this wonderful New Jerusalem, we will all be neighbours, closer neighbours than we are now.
