Why add twenty-seven?

Using only what is found in the Tanakh, please demonstrate that the twenty-seven books which make up the New Testament, and only those books, need to be added to what is called 'scripture' or 'the scriptures'.

God ordained that the Scriptures would be 66 books entirely. Simple as that. Can't argue with Him.

I think the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christians would argue with that, as would the Roman Catholics, the Georgian Orthodox Church, Beta Israel, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and every Tom, **** and Harry who believes they have a hotline to 'God' and believes the number is something other than sixty-six books.

You could also try answering the question that has been actually asked, rather than a different one.

Actually that is not correct. The Bible is a collection of books. For a Long time -- the Apocryphal books were included - though put in the middle of Bible. At some point, they were taken out.

But, originally, for instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls -- lots of copies of several books -- Isaiah being one of those. The books that were included in the Canon were scrutinized by many people over many years. Those that were considered to be Scripture had a certain 'thread' running through them. There was a certain criteria considered in which would be included and which would not. The common thread of salvation by grace. Heaven and hell and how to be able to be in the one and stay out of the other. Some books that were Not included had folk lore included.

All the books are available to read for anyone who wants to read them. But the Bible that is commonly read has 66 books. I'm thinking that it's the Dewey (sp) Version that is the RCC Bible and includes the Apocraphal books.

@David Young -- Every born-again believer Does have a 'hot-line' to God through Jesus Christ. It's called Prayer. In all the churches I've ever been in -- the Bible used is either the KJ / NKJ/ NAS or older NIV. They all have just 66 books.

@ David Young -- would You please answer the question -- have you heard of Lee Strobel? Thank you.

If someone who believed the Tanakh to be a self-contained divine revelation were asked to judge the claim that Jesus of Nazareth was also a divine revelation, but to do so only on how convincing they found New Testament citations of the Tanakh that supposedly referred to him, they would have every reason to reject that claim.

And every reason to accept the claim as is seen by the Messianic Jews who do believe that Jesus is the Christ.
However, it's because the OT leads them to see that the NT confirms the New Covenant with God through Christ Jesus.

Just because you don't believe it to be so, doesn't mean that others do not as evidenced by the replies you have received here.

Now you can start tearing them down....which truth be told you should be honest enough with yourself to acknowledge that it will serve no positive purpose, since you don't have a horse in this race, unless it's the Adversaries. However, since you don't believe in God, why would you believe in Satan and see that it's his purpose that you are serving? None at all. :(

Praying for you David.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

People have Always been saved through faith -- the Old Testament people looked forward To the coming cross -- during Bible times -- when Christ was here and died and rose again -- some actually Did Not believe even what they saw happening. And many others Did believe -- and that holds true Now days. We have Scripture to read, telling about the cross as a past event -- we can choose to accept or reject.

Your phrase referring to people pleasing God by faith -- what Is happening is that a person is realizing / acknowledging their Personal need For salvation. Nothing 'we' can do will ever be good enough to earn our own way to heaven. Christ willingly took our sins upon Himself -- died and was buried and raised back up to life on the 3rd day. We believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord.

Pleasing God suggests that there is something we are doing to Please God. Scripture says Not of works, lest anyone would be boasting about what they were able to do to gain their own salvation or help the cross.

Yes, God sees us through the blood of Jesus Christ -- just as though we'd never sinned.
James 2:17 (KJV)
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Please God and the brethren by demonstrating faith through righteous works. No, the works don't save, like the cart doesn't pull the horse. Also, the cart doesn't carry until the horse pulls.

Chad, you are exactly correct. I worked 2 years with native indian tribes in Oregon while with the U.S. Forest Service, which lands bordered reservations, and learned one ought not form an opinion of Western indians based on John Wayne movies. That's analogous to how some Christians "learn" today concerning what God preserved for us to accept as the full scripture of the 66 books combined as The Bible. Modernists seek to change history, even the heart of the U.S. Constitution.

The early Church pastors received the apostolic writings handed down generation to generation, along with the Hebrew Bible (OT) certified by Jews over many more centuries. Each church confirmed the authoritative scriptures (Canon "straight rule") we accept now along with our distant brethren of the early Church. There were later the problems of heresies and other causes of confusion, such as some churches rejecting one or all of several books like Jude, Hebrews, Revelation, James 2 Peter and others, that all were later put back in universally.

Irenaeus, born 170 AD, listed all our books, confirmed by Origen later. It is deep error to question that well documented heritage of preservation through the centuries. Heretical writings and teachings were rejected along the way, most notably the Prostestants rejecting the Catholic Church bible containing younger writings (Apocrypha) that promoted that heresy.

Here's a really good study of the origins of our Bible at The Canon

You didn't ask a question. You said you wanted a demonstration. But, as I said, such a demonstration, makes no sense. You must first demonstrate what makes the Tanakh authoritative. If you don't know what gives it it's authority, then how can you judge a demonstration?

If you believe that God is sovereign and the Bible is His Word, infallible, then you should assume the 66 books in the canon is what He desired in the end.

Ever since the book of Acts closed, the Church began dividing far beyond the divisions Paul witnessed. He documented some heretics that betrayed him and the gospel. Luke's letter was indeed a letter, concluded, delivered, which alone closed that record. It is commonly mistakenly assumed that modern people are adding chapters to Acts. That isn't practical or possible. Jehovah's Witness will not add to God's word, among many other false and even dangerous cults. A really good reason for God closing the early Church account was that it would become an impossible task to trace the true Church through time. God left the 66 book Bible account as certified of old to establish a "straight reed", the canon measure, of how it all is to be observed.

There are thousands, probably millions of new writings since then, the fans of which accept are inspired of divinity, since those days among the many divisions of Christianity. The various cultures encountering the Word do alone account for many corruptions of truth to suit their own view of life. The clergy contributed volumes of works that, for instance, justified the opulent lifestyle of preachers in the midst of extremely poverty-stricken laity. Those became regarded as inspired messages. Along came the various creeds of belief that attempted to justify the various divisions that were often only attempts to gain power over people. All of those additions over the past 2,000 years leave a multi-branched trail directly to the rise of the Roman Catholics, and current denominations that still share some doctrinal basis, and to the many false cults like JW and Mormons, to name few of many. The longer Jesus is delayed returning, the stranger many supposed "Christian" congregations around the world become to the Church of antiquity. The RC wiped out much of the ancient Church, until a remnant was saved through the Protestant reformation. Politics squelched many remnants. The last remnant has gone back to the original, in the days the Lord Jesus has awaited.

Christianity is blessed to have the basis of the original Church in evidence through those 66 books recognized as inspired of God through men who penned them by holy, trusted men of God, beginning with men who lived in a time when witnesses of New Testament times lived to certify. That is along the lines of how valuable is the original U.S. Constitution kept in a secure vault, raised for limited viewing, in a museum in Washington, DC. That document is preserved like a chief corner stone keeps the integrity of a building, only removed from vile effects of human touch. Whatever a justice declares about that document is subject to further review based on the original. The "only" issue has been interpretation of original wording and intent. An example is the absolute non-existence of the modern concept of "Separation of Church and State". That idea came from one letter, that if read without bias, prohibited such a relationship between the Church and the Government. So it is today that the gospel has been adulterated by false modern concepts.

Everything contributed since those first two centuries is highly subject to scrutiny based on what the oldest manuscripts contained. Whenever any new candidate writing emerged, just one error from the original justified rejection.
