I would think since we are called His bride and children it has to do with Him wanting a bride and children. IE Close and loyal company.
Think about how we have minds able to grasp family and have family all around us. It is all a sign of what God wants from us.
This is why I defend true free will. Anything less then it suggest we are not a creation such as a bride, but rather a glorified robot.

The answer is on the first page of your Bible. It's to rule over the rest of creation as partners with God.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Perhaps we can know the 'why' of God creating man by seeing the end result of man.
That end result would be a family of God. Children, both sons and daughters born of Him. Of His very seed. They would be forever protected by the sacrifice and imputed righteousness of Christ and could never fall away.
Thus Adam and Eve in the garden was just the a means toward the end. With satan and Adam and Eve you had creatures created perfect, yet fell anyway. God has created a family of Him who cannot fall away.

God created children for His pleasure. That’s to say for His company. God wanted children that truly love Him because they truly desired to love Him. Our Father is so intelligent and long suffering to the end. He has shown great patience in His quest to nurture the family of children He desires. God knows that the only way to develop or to come up with children that truly and honestly love him is to give them free will and teach them the Word and see which way they go.
Many think that God can do anything and I believe that He can in 99.9% of the time. But there is this one thing that God cannot do, and that is, GOD CANNOT CREATE TRUE LOVE. God knows this himself. If God could create true love he would have already done it and we all would be living in enterity with God right now. But God does know how to create an environment in which a free will child can be nurtured in a way that true love will well up from within a child. But each child must do it on its own. One cannot be forced or made to love God or it’s fake love and does not want anything fake.
TRUE LOVE CAN ONLY WELL UP FROM WITHIN A FREE WILL THINKING CHILD ON ITS OWN CAUSE THE CHILD TRULY AND HONESTLY DESIRES TO LOVE GOD. TRUE LOVE IS A VERY NATURAL THING BUT IT CANNOT BE FORCED OR MADE, OTHERWISE ITS FAKE.
God knew from the beginning that not all the children He created would overcome or would love Him. God desires that they would but when a child is given free will, that child can choose go either way, the choice is theirs, not Gods.
Must mention for the deeper studying student, that not all of Gods children in these flesh bodies have total free will. The children that do not have free will are known as the Elect, the set aside ones. The Elect overcame in the world that was, pre Genesis. I know I lost some here but the deeper studying students are still with me. The Elect are that one third that fought or sided with God during Satan’s overthrow/rebellion. You all remember the story where Satan accomplished to deceive one third of Gods children to follow or to worship him, one third of the children didn’t know enough about God’s word to make an intelligent choice to follow God or Satan, and one third followed or sided and fought with God against Satan’s rebellion. This one third that chose or sided with God at Satan’s rebellion, are known as Gods Elect. The Elect overcame at that time and were rewarded by God for their obedience and loyalty. Their reward, their souls/spirits were elevated to the status of deathlessness. A goal that all of Gods children must achieve if they are to live in the eternity with God.
