What,s the point today? -
After the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost, the early church ministers began to speak/preach in other nations tongues (Acts 2:4). These tongues were actual spoken existing foreign languages that were supernaturally granted by the Holy Spirit, and this allowed the gospel to transcend language and culture barriers (Acts 2:5 -12).
Imagine hearing the gospel in your language from some one who has never spoken it?
An English Missionary, fresh out of England, speaking fluent Zulu when he couldn't speak a word of Zulu and needed a human translator at his first crusade in the Zulu nation. Very soon the entire Zulu nation would have heard and known about it. Or an American Evangelist just relying on his Holy Ghost gift which enables him to speak fluent Arabic in Yemen.
1. The apostles were able to supernaturally speak these different actual languages.
2. They could preach a message in one language and then preach the same message in an entirely different language!
Which is unbelievable – and to be honest - I have never seen that in any Pentecostal/Charismatic Church.
Ever.
