You're see-through to God
'Nothing is hidden from the Lord, and He judges what we do' 1 Samuel 2:3
Don't try and trick God - He can see right through you! God's much less bothered about what you're doing than what's going on in your heart. Yeah, it's great if you're doing fab things for others, being a real 'good Samaritan', but if you're only doing it to raise your street cred, or look good to someone, then God will be looking on and thinking (in the words of Shania Twain) 'That don't impress me much'. At the end of the day, if you're not impressing the big man upstairs, what's really the point of whatever you're doing? God is the ultimate judge, He's the one who created you so He's the one you should be seeking praise from.
Learn from Jesus' teaching at the Sermon on the Mount. 'Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven' (Matt. 6:1 NLT). It's really not worth it, is it? While you're at it, why not go one step further - and act so that you're glorifying God, not yourself? Jesus also said, 'let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father' (Matt. 5:16 NLT).
Remember today's word - nothing is hidden from God, and He's the one who will ultimately judge you - so check out your heart today. Is it ready for God to look at?
