All right....Where is that in the Bible?

1Pete 2:24 By Jesus stripes you were healed.

You are the healed and the devil is trying to kill you!

Job 5:17 ¶ Behold, happy [is] the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
Job 5:18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

Pro 3:11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
Pro 3:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son [in whom] he delighteth.

Isa 26:16 LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer [when] thy chastening [was] upon them.

Hbr 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
Hbr 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Hbr 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Hbr 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Hbr 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Hbr 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Hbr 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might be partakers of his holiness.
Hbr 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Hsa 6:1 ¶ Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
Hsa 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

1Cr 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

2Cr 6:9 As unknown, and [yet] well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

2Sa 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
2Sa 7:14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

Pro 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

It is late brother now, i set these up for more conversation tommorow. Lets begin again tommorow. I pray this conversation can be peaceful and helpful to others also. God bless for tonight.

I see where your understanding of the word comes from. To get the correct meaning though you have to go to the Hebrew. It differs substantially from modern English in meaning.

Chasten =
1) to chasten, discipline, instruct, admonish
a) (Qal)
1) to chasten, admonish
2) to instruct
3) to discipline
b) (Niphal) to let oneself be chastened or corrected or admonished
c) (Piel)
1) to discipline, correct
2) to chasten, chastise
d) (Hiphil) to chasten
e) (Nithpael) to teach

Discipline =
1) discipline, chastening, correction
a) discipline, correction
b) chastening

Never confuse Chastisement and Discipline with punishment.
Strangely the word punishment means the same now as it did in Bible times.

punish

   /ˈpʌn
thinsp.png
ɪʃ/ Show Spelled1. to subject to pain, loss, confinement, death, etc., as a penalty for some offense, transgression, or fault: to punish a criminal.

2. to inflict a penalty for (an offense, fault, etc.): to punish theft.

3. to handle severely or roughly, as in a fight.

4. to put to painful exertion, as a horse in racing.

dictionary.com

Or if you prefer.

Punishment= ekdikēsis= With respect to 2Cr 7:11: "...meeting out of justice; doing justice to all parties. See on Luk 18:3; 21:22. The word has, however, the sense of requital (see on Rom 12:19; compare 2Th 1:8), and carries with it, etymologically, the sense of of vindication, as Luk 18:7, 8." (Marvin Vincent, Word Studies in the New Testament, 3:329)
or AVvengeance 4, avenge + 4060 3, revenge 1, punishment 1

Of course we will have fun with this. Why else would we even discuss it? Fun and learning.

I think I understand your position here and am curious what you think about Paul's "thorn" Faith4Bride?

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2Cor. 12:7-10

jiggyfly.

Paul's thorn in the flesh was a messenger of satan given to him by the Lord. It's purpose was to keep him humble but it was not a chastenment. It also did not cause any sickness in him but caused him to be persecuted everywhere he went. The original meaning of a thorn in the flesh is in the OT.

El. There are a few words used in the OT for chastening chastenment etc.. They do mean to correct, instruct, to discipline, to punish etc.... We must look further into how they are used to see what this chastening is and how it is done. That is why I posted some of the verses that I did in the first post because they reveal that chastening can include "scouraging" as seen in hebrews. To scourage someone is to beat or whip them. It is the same word used for what was physically done to Jesus by the romans, and what was done to paul. It is clearly a physical infliction and God is clear that He scourages every son he recieves.

We see in the Ot chastening used for what you do for your son, and that includes speaking about using the rod on him and not letting his crying affect you.

The Ot also shows that at times God chastened His people using " the rod of men" meaning that He disciplined them to bring them to repentance through wicked men. God also called the assyrians the " rod of his anger".

Job shows us that when God chastens He makes "sore" and then blinds up. He "wounds" and makes whole.

Paul tells us that when we are judged of God because we did not judge ourselves that we are chastened of him.

These are all physical in some form. We see throughout the word of God that when Gods people are in a sin and arent repenting or arent judging themselves that He chastens them. Sometimes with sickness, sometimes with demons, sometimes with wicked men.

In your first post you said that satan is trying to kill.- That is true but killing is not the purpose of Gods chastening and it is not about what satan is trying to do.

It is possible to have things come upon us from satan those things need not be accepted and we can resist him and believe and he will flee.

But when we are chastened it is given to us of the Lord to bring us to repentance , to wound us and then make us whole, to break and them bind up. It is for our good, not for our destruction when it is from God.- That is IF we repent.

Here is a couple more examples of how chastening can be physical correction, instruction from the Lord

Pro 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes .

Pro 22:15 Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Pro 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die .

Job 33:19 ¶ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain]:

These are the kinds of ways that chastening are shown in the word so that we can see beyond only meanings of words how GOD uses them.

On a side note, I learned something a while ago that might bless some.

We know that the word tells us of how Jesus is our good shepherd and if one sheep goes astray he will leave 99 to go get that one back :)

This is an actual practice of sheep herders.

WHat they would do in ancient times, is if one sheep wandered off from the flock the shepherd would go after it. After he got it he would bring it back to the fold.

break its leg and sit down in the fold with it and then bind up the broken leg. Then he would hold the sheep until it was healed and this would teach the sheep not to wander off anymore :)

And this is what the Lord does with His sheep. He wounds and He heals. And like the shepherds he does it to keep us from going astray for good.

He does it to teach us to stay near him and while pain is never pleasent when it is happening, He does not do it for our destruction but for our good. To keep us from going astray and recieving the reward of the wicked with them.

Hey Jigger Haven't we discussed this before? Could it be my advancing age?

Pauls thorn in the flesh. "there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, The Messenger of Satan to buffet me. A demon was assigned to harrass Paul. Satan sent his messenger to bug the daylights out of Paul...It says it right there.

The bible was written many years ago Jigger and word meanings mutate over time. So to see what was meant when it was written you have to go to a 'dictionary' for that time. The word "Punishment" has not changed at all, but "chastise" and "discipline" have.

All right....Where is that in the Bible?

1Pete 2:24 By Jesus stripes you were healed.

You are the healed and the devil is trying to kill you!

I've read the posts by El Hombre, Jiggyfly, and Faith4Bride with great interest. I agree the definitions of words have changed over the years so the comments made by El Hombre carry some weight. The posts by F4B were revealing in the fact there were so many relating to the original question posed by El H. Jiggy's definitions lent more clarity to the position taken by F4B with regard to the modern usages of the words. Thanks to all for the perspective.

One view not taken directly by any were the definitions of the words in F4B's original post:
Job 5:18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Hos 6:1 ¶ Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

"Chasten" and "Discipline" have been covered. In this discussion, shouldn't these words be considered too? They may help reveal the answer to the original post.

Also, I think it's revealing to see the definition from Vine's Dictionary concerning the word "stripe(s)" quoted in El Hombre's first post. The meaning of the passage quoted changes a little bit when this definition is considered. (I've emphasized in red the part I'm speaking of.)

Stripe:

Strong's # G3468
Greek: molops

"a bruise, a wound from a stripe," is used in 1Pe 2:24 (from the Sept. of Isa 53:5), lit., in the original, "by whose bruise," not referring to Christ's scourging, but figurative of the stroke of Divine judgment administered vicariously to Him on the Cross (a comforting reminder to these Christian servants, who were not infrequently buffeted, ver. 20, by their masters).

Respectfully submitted,
just-a-servant

All right I've dug up the meaning of some words I'll let others do the rest. Also keep in mind that we are of a different covenant than Job was, or Hosea.
1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed. (NKJV)
By the stripes of Jesus we WERE healed. Past tense. God provided for healing 2000 years before you even got sick once. If God makes you sick, He is actively in rebellion against the finished works of the cross. He would be undoing what Jesus died to do. If God makes you carry something Jesus died carrying on your behalf, then Jesus did it for nothing. If God placed ALL sickness on Jesus it means there is NONE left to place on you!
Matt 12:25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. (NKJV)
If God is healing and making sick then His Kingdom is divided against itself and cannot stand. That should shut down the whole stupid theology right there. But some people think sickness is as a result of sin and sickness is one way God uses to teach us not to sin. Really? Look at the following 3 verses:
2 Tim 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NKJV)
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. (NKJV)
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things (NKJV)
God has three ways of teaching us: His Word (which is Jesus), the anointing (which is His power), and the Holy Spirit. If you say sickness is God’s way of teaching, then you are calling the Word, Jesus, the anointing and the Holy Spirit a sickness. Think long and hard about that one… Next, if God made you sick to teach you something, and again I say IF, then why do you go to the doctor? Wouldn’t that be rebellion against God’s will? God wanted you sick, but you are running to the doctor to make you well, so you are in rebellion. You should be praying to let the sickness run its full course so you can really learn what God wants to show you. And if making us sick is a valid and divine way of teaching, and we are told to imitate Christ, then why don’t we inject our kids with cancer or HIV? We want them to be good people with nice character right? If sickness if God’s way of building character, then give your kids cancer and help them be better people. Can you see why I call this stupid?
Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin. (NKJV)
2 Cor 5:19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, (NKJV)
Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. (NKJV)
If God is making you sick because of sin, then God is lying in all three these verses. If He makes you sick because of sin it would mean He is keeping score of your sin, He hasn’t blotted them out of His memory and Jesus didn’t carry all sin. Again, think about that of while, or should I say, SELA! Ok, last verse:
Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (NKJV)
Jesus went around doing GOOD by healing people who were OPPRESSED BY THE DEVIL. Jesus was healing people who the devil was making sick. So if you are sick, it is not God, it is the devil. He is trying to make you carry something Jesus died to free you of in order to get you to doubt the goodness of God. Rom 16:20 says the God of peace will crush satan under YOUR feet. When you start stepping God can do some crushing! So go get that size 13 sandal of the GOSPEL and put it where it belongs, on the devil’s head!

Great thread. God certainly does not strike us with sicknes and disease. We're His kids. He loves us. We have provision to get out of sickness when it comes. Many times we are not guarding our hearts and are allowing the enemy in through our armor and we need to guard our hearts. And other times, we are rvereting back to the Law and making Christ of no effect in our bodies and lives. God is not a child abuser. He trains us with His Word and in church. And many Christians will be surprise that the Bible states clearly that there is ONLY ONE REASON why believers are weak, sickly and dying prematurely. And many believers are not reaping this provision despite Paul having spoken so much about what that reason was. Thank you Jesus that by your stripes I was healed and made whole. Thank you for having your body ripped to pieces so I could enjoy your perfect health and wholeness in this life on my way to Heaven.

And many believers are not reaping this provision despite Paul having spoken so much about what that reason was. Thank you Jesus that by your stripes I was healed and made whole. Thank you for having your body ripped to pieces so I could enjoy your perfect health and wholeness in this life on my way to Heaven.

The very idea of a God who would make you sick, break your arm, kill your kids, or anything else like that just to teach you something and then not even tell you what He wants you to learn is abhorrent to me. What kind of cruelty is that? What kind of cruel God would we be serving if He were like that?

+1 Brother. And many Christians see God as a "child abuser" and say He is one without using that exact language. What's even more sad to me is how Christians credit God with the work of the enemy. God is not our problem folks, He is ALWAYS our solution. These teachings that God makes people sick for some mysterious reason that we'll hear all about in Heaven is just erroneous and legalistic teaching that is not scripturally supported. If God sent sickness and disease then Jesus went around undoing what God di. It makes no sense whatsoever. How Christians see God and what they believe about His character, will determine what and how much they will receive from Him. No one is calling my Abba a child abuser without hearing from me.

Then they see us as blaspheming because we walk in the covenant?!

All right....Where is that in the Bible?

1Pete 2:24 By Jesus stripes you were healed.

You are the healed and the devil is trying to kill you!

I stand upon the teaching that 'God is a good God, and the devil is a bad devil'.

My qoute is from the ministry of the late Evangelist Oral Roberts.

I am 71 y.o.a. and I have some bodily problems.

But neither age nor infirmity, excludes any from the promise that 'God made to bless, His people, and none can reverse it'

There has been much responce to the O.P. But I trust in Jesus....day by day. "He hath said and none can reverse it'

I was out all day from here so alot was said :) I am going to make a couple posts to answer back.

Firstly it was mentioned that we are not in the same covenant as job and hosea. That is true (although all salvation is by faith). But even though that is true, God does not change. And He does not change how he deals with his children. I will admit that I find it sad that people beleive that God giving a chastening to His children is " child abuse". It is the job of parents to chasten their children- and sometimes that hurts- but if we, and God, does not do it then children will end up with the wicked.

But besides that, we can know for sure, that the way God deals with His children has not changed, and that the ways and means of Gods chastening of His children is the same from the OT to the NT for a couple reasons.

Firstly we cannot discount what the OT says about chastening because the NT quotes the OT to us about us recieving chastening from the Lord. Now if they recieved this from God and we are told the exact same quotes in our covenant repeated then we gain our understanding of it from the original quotes AND from what we see in the NT.

I am going to give a couple examples of the NT teaching chastening as something that can be sickness to show that indeed the nt teaching to us is the same as the ot teaching to them. So here is a couple examples:

1Cr 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of [that] bread, and drink of [that] cup.
1Cr 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
1Cr 11:30 For this cause many [are] weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
1Cr 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Cr 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Here we are shown that if we examine ourselves( judge ourselves) we shall not be judged- because we will not then partake of the cup and bread unworthily.

BUT because people do not examine themselves many are weak and SICK and sleep. Paul goes on to tell us in vs 31 and 32 that if we dont judge ourselves then GOD will judge us and we will be chastened of the Lord so we dont get condemned with the world. This clearly connects Gods judgement and chastening to being weak sick and sleeping.

Here is another example.

Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Rev 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Rev 2:22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Rev 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Here God gives the woman time to repent but casts her into a sick bed AND those who go after her into great tribulation unless they repent. These are physical chastenings. Spoken to a church.

We can see from these examples that God does judge and chasten His children who do not judge themselves and who need to repent. This is not abuse it is what we need to keep us from hell.

I am going to make another post on the other point addressed before

Ok the other points i wanted to address is how we are healed by Jesus, how he went around healing, and how God does not account sin to us etc...

Firstly YES we WERE healed by the stripes of Jesus. That is a promise that we can walk in faith in. HOWEVER, no one who is in unrepented sin can walk in solid faith for their healing- AND repentance is required. The forgiveness of sins is connected to physical healing in both the old and new testament. That is why james tells us if any be sick let him go to the elders. if he has sinned he shall be forgiven and he shall be healed.

Healing was something promised in the OT as well and we see that God is a father who chastens when people are in sin. When they repent then there is no more chastening upon them. When we walk in faith and are not in wilfull sin, God does not account sin to us. But when we are in a sin and have no judged ourselves or repented then we are under that sin.

This is why we are told that IF we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us. and that IF any sin we have an ADVOCATE with the Father.

These things are not automatic. We do not sin willfully and become automatically forgiven with no account to us. We must repent if we know we have sinned, and confess.- Now this does not apply to things we dont know we are doing that are sins because we are told that if a man know to do good and do it not THEN it is a sin to him. We are talking about wilfull sins here, things you KNOW better about and do them anyways.

The bible says that will recieve judgement. Which we talked about in cor 11 and we see it here also:
Hbr 10:26 ¶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Hbr 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Hbr 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Hbr 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hbr 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance [belongeth] unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Hbr 10:31 [It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

More than this, we can know that God is not blind to our sins and if we are not walking properly and are walking in sin without repentance HE DOES SEE IT. This is why in Revelation He tells the 7 churches " these things i have against you" and then tells them their sins and what they are doing wrong so they can repent and overcome.

I will try to come back tommorow for more :)

1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed. (NKJV)

According to Strong's Concordance, the Greek word translated as healed in 1 Pt 2:24 can be taken literally or figuratively. Since that verse speaks only of sins and righteousness (no mention of physical illness), I think there is nothing there to legitimately tie it to physical healing.

Also, someone above said something about a doctrine that says you have something mysterious which is why you are sick and will understand in heaven.

That i agree is a FALSE doctrine! God does NOT chasten us so that we can remain sick and die and to to heaven to find out what our sin was. Chastening is for the purpose of God getting our attention NOW and brining us to repentance now- and then healing us with our forgiveness because we repented.

If we are sick, we can examine ourselves to find out if we are being chastened, or tried by the enemy. If there is nothing in us then we rebuke the enemy resist him and believe the Lord that we were healed no matter what.- If we examine ourselves and find something there then we should immediatly repent and confes our sin and then walk in faith that we are cleansed, forgiven, and delivered from this chastening and then do not accept any further illness because our chastneing has ended with repentance.

Here is some other examples of differnt forms of chastenment for sins.

Mat 18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
Mat 18:24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
Mat 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Mat 18:26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mat 18:27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
Mat 18:28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
Mat 18:29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mat 18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt
.
Mat 18:31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
Mat 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Mat 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
Mat 18:35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Here we see that if we do not forgive others the way that God has forgiven us that He will turn us over to the tormentors till we should pay what was due(yikes!)

1Ti 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
1Ti 1:20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme

Here paul uses a form of chastening ( turning over to the tormentor satan) to teach two men not to blasphme. Paul did this again to a brother in sin as well and commanded the church to also

1Cr 5:1 ¶ It is reported commonly [that there is] fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Cr 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1Cr 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, [concerning] him that hath so done this deed,
1Cr 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Cr 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Cr 5:6 Your glorying [is] not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Here paul tells them what you are gathered together IN THE NAME OF our Lord JESUS CHRIST with the power of the Lord Jesus Christ deliver such a one to satanfor the destruction of his flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Now paul is telling the church to use the authority and power of the Lord Jesus Christ to turn a sinful christian over to satan( the tormentors) so his flesh will be destroyed but spirit saved.

Now this would go against the argument that because we are healed by Jesus- Jesus's powre, authority, word, or God himself could not chasten us with anything like sickness etc.. But it is clear that when one is sin sin and needs to repent- then it can be done because they are walking outside of the promises and faith of God.

Chastening in all forms serves to bring us to repentance so that we will not have to be destroyed with the world. Again we are told this:

Hbr 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

According to Strong's Concordance, the Greek word translated as healed in 1 Pt 2:24 can be taken literally or figuratively. Since that verse speaks only of sins and righteousness (no mention of physical illness), I think there is nothing there to legitimately it to physical healing.

ok. But lets look at what the original says together because this is a quote from the OT prophesy about what Jesus would do.
Isa 53:4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

this word griefs in hebrew is literally sicknesses. and the word healed, literally means healed and is always used for when God physically healed someone. Matt 7 or 8 also tells us that Jesus fulfilled this verse for us when he healed all that were sick.
