How Do I Put on the Armor of God?

When a person has accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior , the Holy Spirit immediately comes to indwell them and will give them new desires thar are positive. As a result , they won't want to do the negative things they used to enjoy.

"the Holy Spirit immediately comes to indwell them"

I am aware of the above teaching, and it deserves to have a thread all on its own, since such a view cannot be supported by scripture.
Let me know if you do start such a thread, since I shall Decline to Reply here.
This is a pinned thread, and as such should stay on point.
Thanks kindly,

Look at Ephesians 1: 13 -14.

Yes. In all translations the Spirit follows belief after God's urging. See also John 1:12, Acts 2:38; Rev 3:20 and more. I am not sure if this was your point Sue, but if it was I agree this is what the SPIRIT through the word is teaching us.

Not always. Simon Magi professed belief and was baptized but was NOT saved and never received the Spirit because his heart was wrong before God. So it is with many today (Matt. 25:1-13)

Brother Paul -- you commented about a Simon Magi in relation to the parable found in Matthew 25 : 1-13 . There's a Simon Peter but bot aware of the Simon Magi.

Greetings,

can we please move this topic to the thread provided?

Thank you

Noi my comment was in relation to the thought that everyone who alleged to accept Jesus is NOT filled immediately with the Holy Spirit, in fact, some never are. Simon Magi from Acts 8 is one example. Those in Matthew 25:1-13 are members of the Church, in the Bridal Chamber awaiting His return, but they were not His (Romans 8:9) even though (I am sure) they made a profession (BUT NOT OF REAL FAITH) and were most likely baptized.

So how do you put on the full armor of God? Well first and foremost the new Spirit born baby needs to be convinced in their mind that Salvation is real and what that encompasses. This convinced mind set IS the helmet of Salvation and it protects our thought life and keeps our minds uncluttered by the philosophies of vain deceit after the rudiments of the world and penetration of the enemies fiery darts. It is a two-fold work one factor being our yielding to the Spirit and the word (through which the Spirit speaks and directs us) and the other is OUR transformation of our mind to stop being conformed to the world (we are called to do this part). Once we have the helmet of salvation on (actually, truly), we do not take it off and put it on over and over. For those who are so dressed it is always on. Just my $.02

Paul

@ Brother Paul. Regarding your comments referring to Act 8. Simon the sorcerer-- he had previously practiced sorcery and astonished the people of Samaria Claiming that he was someone great because of the magic he performed . They assumed his great power was from God. But when they heard Philip preach the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they believed and were baptized and Simon himself also believed and was baptized and continued with Philip.
Vs 18 when Simon saw that when Peter and John came to lay hands on them so they could receive the Holy Spirit, he wanted that power also in order to lay hands on people so they would receive the Holy Spirit. He offered them money to be able to. THAT is when he was told his money is worthless because he thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money. And wad told thst he would not receive anything because his heart was not right with God. He was told to repent
And ask God to forgive his heart attitude of bitterness and bound by iniquity.

Vs 24 then Simon asked them to pray to the Lord for him so that none of the things that they had spoken of would come upon him.

It always helps to have all the facts.

And you might want to read Ephesians 6 : 10 - 18 which explains about the whole armor of God . You'll find it interesting.

Thanks Sue. I have read through verse 24 but I must ask, do you believe that this means Simon received the holy Spirit and was saved?

The Book of Acts is transitional in nature. Why the Holy Spirits coming was to various people and spreading to others I don't know. Because we can look at book of Ephesians and find how the Holy Spirit works today

I hope you're not suggesting that what you see in the scripture is the only way the Holy Spirit works. Because if you only see seven gifts of the Spirit could you call yourself an Authority because only you see seven gifts but not more, hypothetically

For many the armor of God is exactly as seen in the scripture. But what is seen in the scripture is just a shadow, of what is. Because it is only an explanation of what is necessary for the bottom line. It doesn't include that you need to put the armor of God on with love. Because if you read the scripture without love then you're reading nothing and if you pray without love then your prayer is worthless, and If You Preach Without Love the preaching are just words that rattle on. But everything has to have love God's love in it and what is God's love God's love is Jesus

Love it.

There are so many who seem to think read it like -

because of this take ye up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to resist in the day of the evil, and all things having done—to stand. Stand, therefore, cursing out your enemies and calling the wrath of God down upon their heads.

You're talking about 1 Corinthians 13 and 14 about love.
