How to activate tongues

Because some believers embrace the full original gospel preached by Jesus and the Apostles.
The same gospel written in ink in my KJV.

What is the difference in the presentation of the gospel back then towards today that modern day believers are not embracing the full gospel by?

In the words of Peter towards the Jews in Acts 2 and in the words of Peter towards the Gentiles in Acts 10, what is missing that you claim that non-Pentecostal believers today are not embracing the full gospel? Peter did not prep any sinner in his presentation of the gospel that they were going to speak in tongues as a sign that they had received the Holy Spirit. Back then, it was a sometimes automatic response from God for any who believe among the multitude of mixed language in outreach.

So how are they not embracing the full gospel when the presentation of the gospel is no different that it was back then?

Please note that Peter did not need to give another calling in either Acts 2 nor Acts 10 after those sinners were saved at the calling of the gospel for them to go seek after the Holy Spirit apart from salvation by a sign of tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:13-16: "Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. 16 Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?"

This seems to indicate, whether the prayer is public or private, that we need to pray not only in the Spirit but with our minds, knowing what it is we are praying. Otherwise, how can we say "amen" to what we just prayed if we don't know what it is that we said?

Here is my experience of speaking in tongues. I believe it is consistent with new testament teaching - but I don't care to engage in a debate about it.

Personality wise I have a tendency to reflect on things a little more than I should. I get frustrated when I can't articulate my thoughts clearly, get tongue-tied and find that hints of perfectionism hinder me in prayer. Just too uptight I suppose.

Maybe other introverts out there have similar experiences.

I find that a lot of my effort in prayer is taken up with trying to express myself before God.

When I speak in tongues, these hinderances are removed, and my spirit is able to communicate with God freely.

For me, praying this way is not about being mindless - it's a release after the resources of my mind have been exhausted.

I suspect that speaking in tongues has a different role in others' spiritual lives, according to their own needs.

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I think all non-tongue speakers will agree that praying normally and knowing what you had prayed for so that when your prayers are answered, we can give genuine thanks to the Father in Jesus's name which is the will of God for us to do which is by far more beneficial than the self proclaimed praying in tongue when by all those supposed benefits for private use, no tongue speaker can be sure that private tongue was a prayer.

which is by far more beneficial than the self proclaimed praying in tongue when by all those supposed benefits for private use, no tongue speaker can be sure that private tongue was a prayer.
Complete rubbish.
Look if you don't want to believe the full gospel of the first church then do not believe.
Your loss.
But stop trying to dissuade true worshippers from getting on with their walk and their
ability to worship the Father in spirit and in truth.

Greetings all,

lots of Holy Scripture in this thread.

Anyone want to trash it with me?

What.... no takers? Why not?

Has any one of you ever read that bit in 1Corinthians 13 ,you know the chapter i am sure. It is smack in between 12 and 14, and i am not boasting my math skills here; ends like this:
but the greatest of these is charity. (in most of the English language versions and circles it is , but the greatest of these is love.)

Why do you think the Lord in His wisdom put that chapter there. It could have been anywhere in the Bible and we all would still reckon it was pretty good, especially at weddings.

Could it be something to do with chapter 12 and chapter 14?

Do you know who really wants to trash the Scripture? And why?
What is the best strategy?

Come on all you quick off the mark members who seem to have forgotten this little gem from Scripture.

Answers please.

Do any of you like so far the way i am addressing you? If not, why not.
Turkeys, liars, fakes, deceivers, pigs.... all of you!!

Sounds lovely doesn't it?

Want more? If not, why not?
If not, stop being so UN-Christian in your communication with each other. Is that what the Grace of God is to you?

Come on folks, we can do better.

So you don't see it the same way. You have your reasons. So be it. But don't forget who you are and who each other member is to the Lord.

How about we remember the price He paid for each one of us?
Was it so we could have a happy little group who devour one another in His name and make a shame of Him? (and maybe even get some likes?)

What sort of tongues are we putting into action here on this thread and others of late?

Here's another question for y'all.
Did you realise that every time you shoot an arrow at another Believer, no matter what they understand of Scripture and Doctrine, or don't, that the arrow is deflected into the Lord's heart, not the one you aimed at?

From what i recall of the Scripture, it says something about let you who are spiritual .... how does it go?
So they shot first! And?

Does turn the other cheek remind you of anything? Or that word starting with F? (forgive one another .... why?)

Apologies to any new members here and any who have tried to only bless others in love but this message is for everyone, you included. If you don't like it, shoot the next preacher who attempts to deliver a hearty message to you, please.

I am not saying lay down and play dead when something is clearly not right but two things:
Remember that while you were yet sinners, Christ died for you (us all) and everything you (we) have received to do with your (our) Christian life is a gift of grace. You (me included) don't have copyright on the Word or the Way or the Truth or the Life. We share in it because of God's love. Let us give as we have been freely given. Sharing in Him is likened to abiding in Him.

Think about this...
the main topic on this thread is speaking in tongues. We are an online forum and so we don't actually speak any of this but are writing usually direct from out thoughts, where ever they come from. But, if we were actually using our tongues, 1) would we say (speak) the things we write? 2)would we huddle into divided groups opposed to each other... and 3) what would non believers think if they walked on in and witnessed us all?
(you would probably find that I would be saying this with a bit more language than you might like to hear. But can that be part of our problem? Do we only want to hear what we like? and get offended if someone (like me for example) says things with my tongue that we don't approve of?

Study to show yourselves approved, we read in Scripture. Who to? Those we chase likes from?

Now, you can rip me apart if you want but please do not treat each other like that. Instead do it this way...

IN LOVE!

So here goes (if you want to buy any stones to throw, you can go down to the Devil's Inn , they're giving them away there. You only have to write the victim's/target's name on them, not much to ask or do.)

There have been posts here that expound the Scriptures. There have been opinions here that expound the writer. Some have had experiences to talk about, others haven't. Some things have been written that others don't agree with. (These are all typical of most threads that have a few replies) Which of these is more desirable to you?
Yeah, i know, there goes that fence sitting, wishy washy, lame, dim visioned, hypocritical half baked excuse of a Christian and he calls himself a Moderator.... (me, that is) (there's lots more but you get my drift) there he goes, trying to tell us how to knit socks. (remember where you can get those stones) but I tell you... you think you know me, fine, some more than others, but I also know something about you. Guess what it is?

No, it's not your favourite song or colour or verse in Scripture or even food.

I know that you all love the Lord with all your heart and that you are capable of sharing that love with others. I have seen it, many times. Some have been here for years and we have seen all sorts of stuff being thrown around. Some of you are quire new here. But you all have one thing in common. What?

Speaking in tongues? ( I personally don't think most of you really get the whole tongues bit but you can shoot me down again on another thread one day if you want) but, you might be surprised about what you don't realise what you have got, too and it's not babble-on)
How about interpreting tongues? Not many hands showing.
What about noses? Sorry I knows that was stupid.
Ears? Yes, but we often forget we have two of them and only one mouth but no, that's not it. Besides, you need ears to be able to hear when someone speaks.
Bibles? Maybe, that i don't know, but probably yes. Same for concordances and the like.
Church shoes? wouldn't surprise me but hey, I have a pair of shoes so who am I to judge?
A sense of humour? when it fits perhaps with those we approve of perhaps (I do)
Any ideas?

Try Blood. Not yours ,though that is true. Whose then?
Some even know songs about being washed in/by the Blood...
and why do you have this? By His Blood we all have access to the throne of grace. How about next time you want to ark up at another member or get your nose out of joint or close your ears to the Scriptures even if they go against our present thinking and beliefs (more properly, doctrines we hold tightly to), next time that happens and you get agitated or frustrated or plain angry... remember where you stand, because surely we all need to be in that room always, even the most pious righteous living of us - who ever they might be, no matter how old or young, male or female, long time Christian or new babe... we all need to be in that room, before the throne of grace and i tell you something...
None of you would even consider to carry on there like you sometimes do here. Why?
Because you'd be ashamed or found out by the Lord? He knows everything that goes on in your heart and mind before you even type it much better than you know yourselves (me included) No. So what then?

before i continue, I would like to ask you all to forgive one another for any and every wrong or trespass or debt or sin against you by not only every one here but by any you have ever had interaction of any sort with or from. Seriously. Get serious. Sober up. Wake up. Do it.

We stand before the Lord, maker of heaven and earth and all that is therein. He makes the waves to roar, and makes them still. He sends the rain and the dry, the day and the night... and He sent His Son, His only begotten Son, in fact he gave His only begotten Son. We stand before the God Who forgives sin, Who gives gifts, Who knows what He is doing. To be in His presence is to cease from all your own thoughts and to worship Him in spirit and in truth, to be so humbled that never a thought of wrong or vanity or pride or arrogance would find it's home, where we see and know that we are one together before Him, Who alone can save, Who alone is worthy , Who alone is judge, Who alone gives grace. And not only grace that we think is for each one of us but grace to us, a body made beautiful by the atoning Blood.

Weep. Let Him soothe your weeping , it is tender and true, it is not of this world and it's evil ways, it is pure and lovely and of good report.... think on these things.

Can I give you snippet of something I am itching to write about at a later date? If there be any virtue.... if there be any praise...
Virtue.
Add to your faith.. virtue....
Father forgive them, they know not what they do.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. Luke 18:13

Jesus Christ is Lord

Bless you ....><>

[ If you don't like this that is OK. I don't want any likes. I want you to be able to interpret properly what I have written to you.. that is all. I know I don't deserve any respect and I don't want any either, but please don't either put likes or reply to this post.]

One final thing... If this post was all typed like this... &^>^$##:}_("^^!~=`;'.,<<&#@$%#^@())*&%#":|}{}{//?
would you have any idea what it meant?

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; ...

Let all things be done decently and in order,

Now dont all talk at once! If you dont understand something, even if its in english, pray for interpretation!!! This is what Paul was saying. God wants us to understand one another. Its probably why Paul was preaching past midnight explaining scripture.

Imagine being in Pauls shoes, hes preaching and sharing the gospel with the greeks and they murmur well I dont understand what you are saying (who is this babbler?!) but they want to know about their unknown God and when hes speaking with the jewish crowd hes talking in Hebrew in his own tongue and nobody listens to him anyway cos they dont want to know, they think they know it all already!!!Lol.

Its only by the grace of God we can know scripture because guess what His spirit shows us what it means!

Shalom. (which means, peace).

please listen to this song, listen good and then listen again... please

Good Enough by Robert Evans
Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

I am hard of hearing and so I had to look up the lyrics online to enjoy the song. I'm not sure if this is correct since it is by Anthony Evans and not Robert Evans. I can hear well enough to know if it matches the lyrics. Is this the right lyrics?

Good Enough
Anthony Evans
Hold on you got the wrong guy
And I'm wondering why you don't seem to see
The job at hand needs a better man
But for some crazy reason you?re calling me
Overwhelmed and under prepared
It's written on my face I'm scared
Then I hear you call out to me.

You don't have to be good enough
This love is for free and it's more than enough
I'll be your strength in all you say and all you do
My Love will make you
Good enough

You don't have to be capable

Just be available to follow where I lead
Whatever, whenever, wherever oh you'll
Never believe all the things you can do through me
So when this big world makes you feel small
Hold your head up high and walk tall
'Cause this is where the good news begins

Blessed are the poor they will inherit the earth
And the weak they will find their true worth
He said come all you weary come get closer to me

You don't have to be good enough

YouTube video with the lyrics printed

Thank you for finding that for me. Obviously that was not the one had found that Br. Bear was talking about in sharing that audio.

I believe I have a problem with the lyrics at 0.24 into the video when it suggests that if I do not want to die, I am not truly born again.

There seems to be too many people that seem to apply works to salvation. I believe those people are confusing discipleship with the free gift of eternal that is without works.

Mercy is not getting what we deserve and grace is getting what we do not deserve. Both are present in the Good News of Jesus Christ for believing in Him to be saved.

Picking up the cross daily is dying to self daily and not a one time event for living as His disciple; It cannot be applied towards salvation where faith in Him without works has saved us. Romans 3:24-26 KJV & Ephesians 2:8-10 KJV

So it is not about dying to self in order to be truly born again, but dying to self in living as His disciple which is what all believers are to seek the good of other believers into doing by looking to Jesus Christ to help them lay aside every weight & sin.

One has to be saved and thus born again to have power to live as sons of God. John 1:12-13 KJV

For any one out there that is under that heavy yoke in dying to self in seeking to be born again, Jesus told us how we are born again...

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?..............

Now Jesus is answering how and when a person can be born again of the Spirit.

John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

See His answer to when a believer would be born again of the Spirit? It was to occur after His crucifixion and after His ascension to the Father was when the born again of the Spirit was to occur.

Now to how one is born again of the Spirit.

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

We are born again of the Spirit simply by believing in Him and those who do not believe in Him were already condemned. as sin was already sending them still on their way to hell.

Salvation is separate from discipleship. There are eternal consequences for not abiding in Him as His disciples when being a castaway at the pre great tribulational rapture event is forever damned as a vessel unto dishonor in His Huse for not trusting Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd t help them lay aside every weight & sin before the Bridegroom had come or before death visit them suddenly and without notice as it can happen in this life. Those who die in sins and those who get left behind will lose out on the firstfruits of the resurrection, but the Lord is still with them , even in former believers; 2 Timothy 2:13 KJV because of the Father's will in ( John 6:39-40 KJV

So we can rest in Him that we are born again of the Spirit and thus saved, as we are to exhort one another to trust Jesus Christ in being our Good Shepherd to help us to follow Him as His disciples in running that race as He will finish it to His glory.

Thanks again for sharing that music video with the lyrics.

Paul says that speaking of tongues is a gift but, useless unless it edifies the church and it can only edify the church if it is accompanied by an Interpreter so others can benefit!

Let's put this back in perspective.
Paul is talking about order in the church and dealing with those who just jump up and start speaking in tongues in a Church Service
Blessings

Again, I don't talked against Tongues, it is a Biblical gift but,St Paul says it does edify the church if no interpreter is present don't do it regardless of ones feelings.

Again That is in a Church Service.
Speaking out for the entire church as a message from God

Greetings,
If you will watch this truth of history you might begin to understand Speaking in the Spirit or Tongues

Periodically we being not yet perfected, have to be reminded to what we are to the world and to each other in Christ Jesus.
Thank you Brother @Br. Bear for the reminder.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
This does not mean that you must agree, but rather that you understand that the words we communicate to each other can cause pain and hurt to the very people that are loved not only by us, but beloved of our Lord.
Let your communications be in Love Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ Jesus.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Everyone who has been given the gift and there are different gifts of the holy spirit...are to encourage one another whatever gift we have, whether its tongues or healing or prophesy or interpretation. Dont feel miffed if someone has a gift you dont have or not sure how to use.

For example, some people are given visions, or pictures from the Lord. I dont have that gift but that doesnt mean I am going to put down others that have it just cos I dont have it, or tell them not to use it just cos I dont have or use it, because we all members of one another right, in the Lord. Maybe God will activate that gift in me when Im ready He gives to whoever He pleases,.

Some people have the healing gift, who am i to say what they have is wrong and demonic?! And tell them not to use it, and say well dont pray for me or lay hands on me I would rather pay to see a doctor.

The only thing to be wary of is when people get carried away or misuse their gifts.
If there's counterfeits they will be exposed, so we need not worry on that account.

Please dont squabble over gifts its worse than the beahviour of bratty kids at christmas. If we do ask we will recieve maybe not right away but if we dont ever ask maybe we wont!! Be thankful that others have recieved and able to share cos thats all thats needed, if youve already been given a gift than just say thank you Lord.

Greetings,

have you (any of you) ever thought about why Paul spoke in tongues more than all others (all of you)?

What does Scripture tell us?

I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: 1Corinthians 14:18

Bless you ....><>

Greetings,

Was Paul born again or filled with the Holy Ghost at his conversion? I don't recall any mention of him speaking in unknown tongues when he received his sight (back) yet he said/wrote as an Apostle of God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.
Did the writer of Acts miss something?

Bless you ....><>
