Even in John 3, Jesus immediately connects salvation to His coming death: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up” (John 3:14). The cross was already being introduced there.

We can read what we know back into this. At that time you wouldnt know he was speaking of the cross. The twelve didnt understand it

Further, after the resurrection the apostles still use the exact same “born of God” language for believers generally:

• “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (1 John 5:1)
• “Being born again… by the word of God” (1 Peter 1:23)

They were both writing to Jews
They were apostles to the Jews

well, the jews of the time came close to rejecting the entire book of ezekiel... except for one respected rabbii.

so with regard to believing Israel, well, they already rejected him 500 years prior to christ. then they rejected him again.
so, who is israel? and who is believing israel?
