1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Speaking in tongues is talking to God. In other words it is for prayer.

1Co 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

The word “edifieth” means to charge up.

Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Speaking in tongues is used to “magnify God”

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1Co 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

Speaking in tongues reveals mysteries.

Lentz, reconsider your decision for a moment. I would hate to see you leave.

I know what you're going through, it burned in my gut like a furnace for years.

With the help of the Lord I got a handle on it, though I haven't yet perfected it.

You can do the same! Just give it some thought before it becomes final, Brother.

Sorry Brother, but I cannot tolerate blasphemous stupid people. It’s not just the tongue nonsense. It’s demons in little spaceships, idiots who think they are one of the two witnesses, nuts who claim to ride in chariots with God,claims to be a prophet that goes to heaven on a daily basis, out of body experiences.
This site is too blasphemous and weird for me.

I understand, Brother! I'll be in touch.

Tit 3:2 not speak evil of any one, nor be contentious, but yield unselfishly to others and constantly manifest a forgiving spirit towards all men.

Dear Brother,
You really don't like being called on anything do you? lol
You've accused me of being a liberal, alluding to me calling you an atheist, but don't like it when asked where I or anyone else has done that to you.
You're old enough, if 68 yrs. if accurate, to know that life doesn't always agree with one's perceptions/perspectives. Regardless, wherever you find yourself before the Lord calls us home, or comes to get us, remember life is good, but eternal life is better!

If you want me to have your account closed, I will ask the Administrator of the site to do so for you. Believe it or not, you will be missed! :)

You have always offered a unique perspective on different topics; sadly, you just haven't been able to accept criticism very well. After being in the military, I've learned to get over that speed bump in me. Though at times I can still grit my teeth! lol

If you don't come back to posting but read this, God bless, and safe travels.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is barren.

1Co 14:15 How then does the matter stand? I will pray in spirit, and I will pray with my understanding also. I will praise God in spirit, and I will praise Him with my understanding also.

Has prayer been done away?

I know the Pentecostals, Church of God, Foursquare, the Charismatic Movement in general, will tell you everyone should be praying in tongues.

That is simply not true, they are taking the Scripture out of context.

Look at this, Curtis, take a good look at what I'm showing you!

Rom. 8:26-27

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

Curtis, it's not the groaning (language of the person), It's the groaning of the Spirit to God the Father for us.

They will tell you it's your prayer language when it's actually the Holy Spirit that is groaning and making the intercession for the believer.

The Bible never contradicts itself as you must consider all scripture to get to the truth.

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. (KJV)

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody]. (AMP)

There is NO way the Holy Spirit is going to pray without you being a participant. This is why the Holy Spirit is called our "helper"
All unknown tongues is done with our spirit by the Holy Spirit.

It's a Biblical fact that Paul and many others prayed in tongues.

But not all have been given the gift of tongues, Curtis.

I have not been given the gift of tongues. I have never once spoken in any manner other than English.

There were many in the time of Paul who never received the gift of tongues.

The gift of tongues (as I have pointed out in other posts) was not meant for everyone.

In the context of Rom. 8 where Paul tells us of the Spirit making intercessions for us through "groanings that can't be uttered" in prayer, nowhere in that context will you find anything about tongues.

That's because tongues have nothing to do with what he was saying! But the Charismatics will say just the opposite with no foundation whatsoever.

I strongly disagree. The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues is for everyone who believes.

OK, I'll ask you the questions the Apostle Paul set forth.

See if you can honestly answer them, Curtis.

1 Cor. 12:29-30

" Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?"

27

If the Holy Spirit “helps” us that never means he doing it on his own. All prayer in the Spirit will always be my spirit praying being “helped” by the Holy Spirit.

Answer the questions honestly Curtis. Paul didn't give the answers, it's obvious.

Set your denominational pride aside for a moment and be honest before God.

You have already asked me that same question and I answered it in post #83

I see you did, good! So if speaking in tongues through the filling of the Spirit is for everyone, why is it that only the Charismatics have it?

Are you Charismatics superior to the rest of us, maybe favored by God? I once prayed with a true heart for it but He didn't give it to me.

Then I found the lie they were telling, it's not for everyone as they claim.
I do not belong to any denomination.

That's fine! If you speak in tongues and believe the "baptism of the Holy Spirit is for everyone, you're considered a Charismatic whether you like it or not.

I've been to several Charismatic Churches in my day. I've seen how they make alter calls for the "baptism of the Holy Spirit.

They coach them, "open your mouth and let it flow," "your not trying hard enough, "utter that first word and it will begin."

None of this junk is Biblical, those who received it didn't ask for it, they weren't coached, they received it without knowing it was coming.

Which brings us to the question, is this still in effect today?
