An important point to grasp is that the Bible never teaches us to put our hope in "going to heaven". Our hope should be in resurrection - our bodies renewed, living in a world that's released from the bondage of death and decay.
This is equally incorrect. The "Earth" won't be our primary residence. The New Jerusalem will be.
John 14:2; In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:3; And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Rev 3:12; He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.
Rev 21:2; Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3; And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Rev 21:10; And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
Rev 21:27; But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
Rev 22:14; Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15; But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
