To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, [but] gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. Titus 3:2
We have a tendency to move from what is clearly a disagreement on some subject, and move directly into making it a personality/character issue. We become the brawlers spoken of in Titus. Instead of turning it over to God and allow Him to handle it (Romans 12:19). It's riles us up and we feel the need to go on the attack. Instead of sharpening the iron, we wind up abusing a loved one with it.
I'm hardly excluding myself here! Not perfect.....yet!![]()
So, Brother Dave, this is a good subject to discuss, for all need to look in the mirror, or the pages of their words and ask "Could I have done, or said this differently?", "That didn't cause such pain, but still make the point the Spirit of God wants me to make?". Not avoiding pain totally, but unnecessarily adding to it!
For me it truly requires a greater focus. This focus is, "How much do I love that person." Not the type of love that accepts sin. Humanity is all for that. It's how do we stay on point in a disagreement while still recognizing that pain, and hurt can easily prevent us from showing/giving/reflecting the very Love our Lord wants us to have for each other. Looking to the Love we have for them, rather then the point of contention is what shines through during these communications.
There have been times I have noticed here at Talk Jesus, where two will be into a serious discussion on some contentious topic, and abruptly both recognize the futility of continuing it. Communicate their Brotherhood in Christ, shake, and then move on with aand
My heart just sings when I see this!!! The one time I truly wish I could reach through the monitor and hug those folks!!!!
Some might only see that the topic was unresolved!!! Still, if each ones position has been fully explained and neither comes to an agreement. Isn't it better to part in peace, then to let it get to the point where one or both wind up "speaking ill of one another"?
Thanks, brother for allowing my ramblings! Believe it or not. This was many more pages, but in each review I left more offPlus, my wife, just came in and with a mock seriousness said "Are you still working on that post?" LOL
So, I leave this last with you with words I try to end with all my postings.
With the Love of Christ Jesus Brother Dave!

P.S.
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence [am] base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: 2 Corinthians 10:1
This particular chapter one would hardly imagine actually speaks amongst other things, is warfare and authority!!!!
