OK, then, the only other option is, He never loved Esau.
I don't think it's wise to establish any fundamental doctrine based on three verses:
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
(Romans 9:13 KJV)
I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
(Malachi 1:2-3 KJV)
That's all ya got,
@B-A-C.
There's no information in Malachi to establish reason or timeline. One does have references in Obadiah, and also here:
But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
(Jeremiah 49:10 KJV)
But the references to Jacob and Esau are typically expanded to mean the descendants of each.
No doubt you will disagree, but Paul didn't explain his views very well in Romans 9 (cf. 2Pe 3:15,16).
