No! They the exact opposite
I realize that pastors and ministers have a difficult time learning from the bible (I blame that on bible schools), but if you do an in depth study you'll find that both definitions are the same thing and that grace is what I said it is...The empowering PRESENCE of God. Mercy does not empower anybody. If your definition were correct you could read these verses this way and there would be no problem....
    • Ephesians 1:7according to the riches of his mercy;
      In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his mercy;.....No! according to the riches of his empowering presence in your life

    • Ephesians 2:5
      Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by mercy ye are saved......By His empowering presence in you are you saved

    • Ephesians 2:7
      That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his mercy in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.......might shew the exceeding riches of His empowering presence in your life
    • Ephesians 2:8
      For by mercy are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:..... By His empowering presence in you are you saved
I understand you may choke on this, being a minister and all, but instead of arguing....Take it to the Holy Spirit and ASK Him... Come on Paul...You can do that.
