What version Bible do you read?

I try to read three versions all at once. But that takes a very long time, and I get bored of it. So lately, I've been reading Amplified, mixed with some NIV. But for a while, I was reading the following:

The Message
KJV - I'm starting to read it again, but sometimes, it gets really hard to understand.
NIV
Amplified.

And I sometimes go on website and I use the version New Living Translation. I really enjoy reading from that.

I really want a bible dictionary though! Ha.

I read an afrikaans bible wich is my language but also read the older translation because in the new one of the versus are left out and some words are changed and can mean something totally different to what the hebrew or greek translated.:wink:

Usually the newer translations are made from older manuscripts which do not contain all the data found in newer ones.

I would say NKJV, NASB, NIV, KJV.

I like using the more literal translations and tend to stay on that end of the spectrum. However, at some point I'm interested in giving The Message and God's Word a read.

The King James is a trustworthy version in English.

In Spanish I read the Reina-Valera.

The KJV is simply an older version. It is far less trustworthy than the newer translations.

I use KJV simply because it is the most accurate translation to the original texts and the most easyiest to read. I will read the NASB or the NKJV from time to time but I always go back to my KJV.
I have found that several translations have taken out very critical elements, such as:
John 3:16 (KJV) says: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" and John 3:16 (ESV) says: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son". The ESV is simply not as accurate on this critical element of the Gospel. If we take out this essential "begotten", we change the meaning of the passage and if we read Romans 8:14 (KJV) " For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." this makes us sons of God also. So if we are to read the ESV and Jesus is the only Son of God then Romans would not be accurate and thus scripture begins to fall apart. Thus, Jesus is the "only begotten Son". Begotten being monogenēs in the Greek and meaning "single of its kind". So Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and we are sons of God.

Aha, unfortunately you are incorrect. The word Monogenes means "Only" / "Sole" rather than only begotten. G3439 μονογενής monogenes (mon-og-en-ace') adj. 1. only-born, i.e. sole. There is a difference between God's only Son <--note the capital 'S' and Christians as 'children of God.'

I like how my pastor says it "Other versions contain the words of God, but the KJV is the Word of God"

Not sure what rhema or logos means...

Actually Jesus is God's Word, the Bible is not.

i use kjv because it is simple to understand coz am still a new born baby in christianity. i like the straight to the point verses which dont get me confused but wld love to hear if u gat any versions i can try. God bless

I chose other b/c I use a NKJ and an amplified Bible. If I'm studying something that needs further clarification, I'll check many different versions on-line.

I've got practically every Bible version out there it seems like, and my least favorite was the King James.....but I found that every time I used a more "modern" version, like the New Living version....I'd catch myself going to "compare and check" it by the King James Version.

Then one day I needed a new compact Bible, and found a King James at Walmart for $10....it was large print, with cross references on almost every verse. I started reading it and just love it now! Well, once I can get past the "thees and thous" lol

I like the more literal versions because I have a free Hebrew/Greek Interlinear bible that I downloaded, and I check a lot of verses on it, for accuracy.

And to be honest-a lot of the stuff we read in our Bibles really is a lot different than what the Hebrew/Greek really says! I'd like to get the very earliest English Bible, or even better-I'd like to actually LEARN Hebrew and Greek!

I read KJV but don't prefer it over another, especially because I don't live in a "thee" and "though" world.

A person who would become hung up, much more be confused with Jesus being the "Son " of God as apposed to the "begotten" Son of God, I think could be a latent problem with their faith perhaps.

The innaccurances between Bible versions is not that crucial to the understanding of the gospel that saves. All the versions that you listed are essentially the same. You couldn't say that one is counterfeit as I would call the "Mormon" Bible for instance.

I have always know that KJV was the most popular: I have also been told that I was going the hell because I did not read it as my sole source of God's inspiration.

I know many , that are totally inspired by another version than the KJV and they know and understand the the gospel very well.

Yes accuracy is important but I don't know a version that does not inspire a saving knowledge of the gospel that St. Paul said he preached!

There may be some differences, but I do not see a version that does not identify the finality of the cross and God's saving grace in the ressurection of Jesus Christ.

I voted other because my favourite version is the Revised Standard Version. This is what I read during the years after my salvation. This version really speaks to me.

Often I also read from the NKJ or the NIV.

I prefer the Amplified Bible. I think it does the best job of capturing the expressive nature of the Greek and Hebrew texts.

Robster,I agree with you,when I first came to Jesus,I found the New Amercian Standard,very helpful to my simple mind.Nothing wrong with the K.J. either,but the Amplifed does just that in scripture for me.IT Amplifys!

Agree totally Kingdom Seeker!!! Most of the time I have a Comparative Study Bible which has NIV, KJV, NASB, AMP next to each other. This doesn't even count the online site that I use for research which has another 11 not including Hebrew or Greek ones! About the only one I won't read is the Message.

Yeah, its really Important i think, to have allot of different versions.


And Yeah...Stay away from the Message, The "GODS WORD" Translation, and there was one other version i read, and was like OH NO!! its the ... Contemporary English Version...I think...
