Where Do We Go When We Die?

Revelation 21:9 "Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, "Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb."
21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God'

I believe God created the Heavens and the Earth, He created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden of Eden to be there forever in His presence.

I also believe that when God tells us there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth, they will be restored for the original, resurrected from the original. God is not going to let mankind destroy what He created and said was 'Beautiful'. He is not going to get rid of Heaven and earth and the whole universe He created by sending it through the black hole or any other way. God 'Restores' all things, He makes them new again. So it makes sense, to me, that the world we live in will be restored to as it was in the Garden of Eden, God with man, man with God, sin free, at peace once more.

Revelation 21:2 "And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God."

Jesus will come again in Glory, the devil, who is on earth, will be defeated, the Doctrine of continuity, takes us from here, to the Present Heaven, to the New Earth.

History won't start again in the New World, no more that it started again after the fall, when Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden. It will be a continuation, Eden was part of history. There was direct continuity from the pre-fall world to the post-fall world.

Similarly, there will be direct continuity between the dying old world and the resurrected New Earth when satan is finally defeated.

The Holy City, the New Jerusalem will 'come down' from Heaven. That is how John saw it. But the Holy City will not cover all the earth, we are given the sizes of the Holy City as mentioned in a previous post. 'In the city' there will be no light because God's light will fill it both day and night. We know from scripture how many gates there will be in the New Jerusalem, how far apart they will be, that there will be an angel at each gate, not guarding or protecting the Holy City as there will be no need to guard it, there will be no sin.

There is lots more to think about, explore and look forward to. Once we accept wee will have new resurrected bodies questions flood about, and why not?

What will we look like, we will be our self, how old will we be/look? (Heaven will not be full of pensioners). What language will we speak, will we understand each other (see Penticost) will we be able to come and go in and out of the Holy City. As Ellie said previously.... WOW!

O come Lord Jesus, yet not our will but thine O Lord. Amen

An interesting verse at the end of Paul's discussion of resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15. He says, "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain."

Too often, discussion of what happens when we die ends up with a kind of fatalism about the world - 'what's the point of doing anything before God makes all things new?' But Paul's approach is that the promise of God restoring and renewing everything is a spur to action - every good thing we do here now will be perfected and glorified when the great day comes.

Regarding your second paragraph Hekuran, I do not find the discussions pointing towards fatalism of this world, to the contrary, I find us talking of the world restored and made better, made as God had planned from the beginning, giving us restored bodies and living with YHWH forever.

If anything, I find talking with people about Heaven and that we, as born again believers will have resurrected bodies is very exciting news for them. I also find when talking to those who thought we were only going to be spirits in a spirit world, they get excited also, these can include, widows, disabled, terminally ill, those suffering or persecuted, people who are desperate due to debt or loneliness, those struggling with life for what ever reason. This is exciting news to them but it can easily push them to not want to be here on earth and instead prefer to be in Heaven. I mentioned this earlier on page 2 of the thread and further clarified it on page 3 #41 Brother-Paul, Monday at 7:16 PM

Yes. I wasn't referring to this thread in particular, but to many, many conversations, things I've heard and read.

For me, when I first awoke to the reality of resurrection, my excitement was founded not so much on the release from bodily pain and hardship, but on the many, many physical things I enjoy. I'm not particularly materialistic, but I love swimming in the sea, the taste of strawberries, the feeling of perfect exhaustion after a day's cycling, bonfires, the sweet smell of rain after a long dry spell, beautiful music, early morning sunlight... you get the idea.

Somehow these things and more will find perfection in the renewed creation.

The Bible clearly gives us a glimpse of what Heaven will be like, it also tells us enough to help us visualise even more, but this side of going to Heaven, this side of Jesus' return and receiving our New Resurrected Bodies, we will not see or comprehend what God has in store for us. Be assured, when we are in Heaven we will see, we will be in the resurrected Heaven and Earth, we will have and see our new resurrected bodies, all things will be made new, we will be amazed, we will be in awe.

Rev 21:5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."

But until them we will only see in part... (from what the Bible tells us and what the Holy Spirit reveals to us)

1 Cor 13:12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Be assured, we will see sister, the blind will see, the lame will walk, our new bodies will be totally New, but they will still be us.

Jesus knows what Heaven is like, He came from Heaven, He returned back to Heaven and is now sat at the right hand of God the Father in Heaven.

When He was on earth, Jesus pointed us to the Father in all He did and said.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.
26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.
27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

He is the intercessor of all our prayers, no one comes to the Father except through the son, all authority in Heaven and on earth was given to Him..... but there is one thing He doesn't know, that is the day He will Return to earth and defeat the devil, restoring all things and making them new.

Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Jesus knows the answer to everything else, He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. But we must come to the Father through Jesus, there is no other way. Amen

O my, there is so much joy in being one of the Elect of God. It's actually good that we can only guess that we are the Elect Bride of Jesus the Son of God. Therefore we can't elevate ourselves in the fleshly part of our mind.

BUT, in the spiritual labor that we are engaged in, compared with those who are not taking our Lord's command to.... 1 Corinthians 15. He says, "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain."

We can suspect that we are a part of....Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,"

For those of you who are actively day by day being Christocentric, Bravo!! The word Christocentric comes from a Christian Psychologist teaching. It simply means that our hunger and thirst is for the things of our Lord Jesus on a daily basis, not the world. This is the earmark of being one of the Elect Bride of our soon to be Husband King Jesus.

When the Scripture says that we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, I believe that a big blessing will be the result of....Revelation 3:10 "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth."

That my friends is the first gathering of the Bride of Christ, commonly called the pre-trib Rapture. Yea, I know, a lot of really brilliant Christians don't believe this, BUT this old Country Preacher likes to keep things simple. Remember the motto K.I.S.S? To me it means Keep It Simple Saints. So, please see this little post as a slight addition to Brother Paul's excellent post #67. I see these Scriptures as simple proof that doesn't need additions or subtractions. They say what they say.

Hey, I love all of you who are involved in this wonderful Forum "Talk Jesus". I have found great spiritual refreshment in communicating with you all, especially with that old turkey RJ. So my friends, keep on keeping on. It won't be long before our Lord returns to the clouds and gathers up His precious Bride of who you are. He will swoop you up and meet Him in the air. Think of it, we have never met outside of this Forum. BUT, when we reach Jesus in the clouds, we can with great joy, after being hugged by Jesus, hug each other to start our new life that will never end.

May the Grace, Peace, and Favor of our Lord Jesus Christ, spur you on to continue daily to surrender your days to serve our Lord Jesus with great joy, knowing that soon we will be with Him.
