If you think about it, the disciples met the criteria for becoming born again before the day of Pentecost. They believed on the risen Lord.Pentecost was people becoming born again...
Of course, there are a variety of opinions on this.it is not a template for how to run a meeting. 1 Corinthians 14 should be adhered to. It clearly says that if nonchristians are present the only tongues heard should be followed by interpretation.
But I have noticed that those churches who put a damper on prayer tongues in public eventually lose ALL tongues, PLUS the ability to interpret them.
What you allow to grow and develop is what will become strong.
Put a stranglehold on tongues, and it will die out.
I have seen it over and over.
Have you never experienced fellowship in the Spirit? When we ALL enter the "spiritual zone" together... I simply cannot describe it. It is then that we begin to know by experience what Jesus meant about being seated together in heavenly places in Christ.Church meeting implies interaction and fellowship, and this is not achieved by each individual being in their own 'spiritual zone' and forgetting about others, speaking in tongues, or otherwise.
