makeup is important to lots of girlss as are skirts and lingerie we shouldnt make christians feel bad if they wear either jmho

makeup is awesome and so is fashion, its not a waste of time or money.. girls just like different stuff than guys is all. i think its totally fine to wear makeup and I do all the time plus 90% of my wardrobe comes from victoria secret because its what i love wearing. i think the makeup isnt an issue, take it from mee cause all my friends who are girls wear makeup and they even wear less clothes than me and they are all christian and we all go to church every week. never has been an issue 4 us​

Just reassuring you the aim of this thread is not to make anyone feel bad. It's aim is to look at the scriptures and what they say about makeup, part of a study my daughters and I have been doing.

Just a couple of questions....

You mention a few times how important makeup is to you....what makes it so important?

Why do you need to pay so much attention to your clothing and makeup?

(These are not judgemental questions...just trying to establish understanding)

The God who created all the colors and painted the whole world with the strokes of His own brush... and caused the cheeks of roses to blush... does not care one wit if I crush its beautiful petals and paint my cheeks with the same. Not one wit. How do I know that? Go lay in a field of hay...pick a buttercup and rub it on your skin...OH there is Gods yellow! ...pick a raspberry and kiss it with your lips ...OH there is Gods red...press your knees to the earth...OH there is Gods green...

Once a long time ago I was feeling awfully guilty for longing for pretty things...until one day I heard the whisper of God...He said "look around you, I like beautiful things too"

Then I opened my eyes, and seen the world around me through the eyes of God...it was like seeing it for the first time....ah...there is no such thing as "artificial beauty"....there is no such thing as "secular" ...the earth is the LORDS and the fullness of it, and He called it GOOD ...then He created man and woman...and said its all yours, ENJOY! <3

(sorry for the paraphrasing, if anyone really needs to know if what I say is true, yes the Bible tells me so! :`)

I would not go as far as to say a woman should not wear makeup...however one should always use common sense and wisdom as to where and when and how much is right for the time ..to see women go to church looking pretty is one thing but to see women dressed like they are going to the club to attract attention to thier beauty is another animal all togather ...just as in all things moderation should be the rule..less is more at church..we should be there to worship and bring attention to Christ alone. not impress our friends or meet our social needs........IMHO...Rev

Yes...and may I also add

Not only at church but in all our activities let us worship and bring glory and attention the Christ alone
He is the glorious bridegroom of our hearts and let us rejoice that one day we will no longer need these earthly bodies for we shall be like Him.

And may I ask.....
Why do women need to wear makeup atall when the centre of all our attentions and glory should be Jesus?
It would be interesting to hear reasons why women who wear makeup do so.

Is there too much makeup possible? Do any of you remember Tammy Fae Baker?

Yes, and wasnt all her natural beauty covered by her layers of thick makeup/eye makeup which became more of a memorial testimony for her than her Christianity?
 
Yes, the makeup is what most ppl remember about her, and as you say, it covered her natural God given beauty.
 
I won't go into full detail but I will say ...makeup is usefull and needed in some cases but again if its used to create a false sense of beauty than you need to rethink you're heart condition ..part of why i Married my sue is because she dosent hide behind a mask of paint nor does she have to ... Now Here's the thing and I may be stepping in it to say so since im a guy. When you apply make up it changes you're makeup ..I've been wearing it since 1988 and I can tell you if you don't like what you see in the mirror a little base and rouge can change what you see you're self as...so that being said ..if you cover you're natural beauty ( inner self ) with make up cause it makes you someone you like...than get with God and find you're true self worth in Christ ...on the other hand sometimes a little paint helps the barn..lol. Bless the woman who is uncovers before The Lord and lays vanity aside for true beauty that dosent fade...Rev

Why is it so important to me? Just like my brothers liked to play with trucks and tool boxes I've always liked makeup. I have 2 older sisters and we all like fashion and that kind of stuff, it is just a lot of fun for us to experiment with new makeup, buy new makeup and match it with outfits. Its just something I like to do and wear, I like looking as beautiful as I can and it gives me self-confidence when I spend a lot of time on my face and body.

Why do I need to pay so much attention to clothing and makeup? Because its fun. Because I am a creation of God and I think I should look beautiful and not be ashamed and try to look the best I can for him and the world. Because I like miniskirts, shorts, tank tops, bikinis, lingerie, shoes, I like wearing them and I like how they make me feel. I like it if a guy says I look pretty or thinks I look good that day. Its just nice to get compliments for doing something that I love by taking time with how I look. We are a part of the God's world so if we look beautiful then God's kingdom will look beautiful. Theres been times when I've been at the mall or out and wearing something cute and some guy comes up to me to compliment me and we get to talking and I share my love of God with him and he is in my church and saved, how can that be bad?

Me and my gfs like wearing makeup, like wearing less clothes, maybe something revealing it just makes us feel good about ourselves and gives us confidence and its fun. Everybody has things like that, if its makeup & clothes for us then whats wrong with that?

There are certainly men who wear make up. I would say virtually all actors wear at least some.
1 Cor 6:9 says being effeminate is a sin.

Deut 22:5 says wearing women's clothes is a sin. (Cross dressing)

On the other hand, football players wear anti-glare markings under their eyes. Is this make-up?
In traditional gender roles, men were the ones who brought home the bacon so to speak, did the hunting, were the providers.
It's hard to imagine a soldier, fireman, coal miner, or construction worker wearing make-up. On the other hand, I know men who wear hair spray. (Is that vain?)

What about whitening your teeth? Tanning? Body-building? Coloring (dyeing) your hair?
How far do we want to go here?

Is there any difference enhancing ones self with makeup to enhancing oneself with piercings or tattoo's

For the purpose of my daughter's study I kept this thread to the issue of makeup....but it could easily open out to many more topics



 
Tattoos and body piercings are things I don't understand either. I know what they are and the potential health and social dangers of both, but I don't understand the concepts.
 
I think it's inLeviticus ...it talks about a master that has a servant can at the end of seven years release him to freedom...however in an attempt to keep the servant if he took a wife or had children they had to stay as the masters property....now if the servant decided stay due to this leverage the master would take the servant to the door post and with an awl or punch would place a hole in the ear lobe and earring in the hole marking the servant as his property .final..! My self I removed my earring ( two silver feathers In my left ear ) so as to no longer be property of the world ( my master at the time ) I share this in hope that a salve mentality as God showed me would explain the biblical concept of ear piercing but body pearcing and tattoos are self mutilation...and can become addictive like a drug due to the release of endorfans in the body ....I always think of a bass on a bad day when I see lip peircings...a fish on the worlds hook so to speak ......Rev
