Apparently I had not looked into it sufficiently,

The truth is the truth whether the devil writes it or not. He writes very good doctrine at times. It's just what he adds to it or tries to take away that is the issue.

Not saying Luther was the devil.

Luther also wanted to get rid of the book of James, the book of Hebrews, the book of Jude, and the book of Revelation. He didn't think they belonged in the bible.
