which bible

Sounds like someone was wanting you to hear a more positive explanation regarding that particular Study Bible. I happen to have one of the older NIV Study Bibles.

I have a very used NKJ Bible sitting here beside my computer. When I want to share a passage, I look it up from This Bible and share. I, also, sometimes check wording with a KJV Thompson Chain reference Bible that was my husband's -- that was his favorite Bible. And I have an NIV plain Bible by my bed for reading.

And there are those who love the older English useage. Feeling that it was 'good enough back then, so it's still good enough Now". Which is fine, also. Just as long as there is no judgementalism being shown to others who don't share those feelings. Years ago, my younger son pretty much was a KJV onlyist. In S.S. one morning -- the guy sitting next to him was using an older NIV and my son offered to share his Bible with him. My son's attitude was 'here is a Real Bible to read'.

If I'd been at that breakfast -- if it was for pastors and wives -- I'd probably have taken the voucher and gotten the other book as well. :)

Now -- if a group was encouraging the New NIV Bible -- That one isn't worth the paper it's printed on. :)
Luckily Sue, many years ago, I read the Pilgrims Progress in old English, it took a while to master but perseverance paid off and I mastered the old language, but when I read the word, I find the modern English easier. I'm not familiar with the new NIV, in fact I've never heard of it. but I bought a leather bound version of the original with a chain reference for my son, and I have inherited that and it serves me well. If I wish to check different versions for reference I google the passage, and most of the various versions come up with the passage I wish to check. many people have tried to persuade me to change, citing their versions as superior. However, I believe that all accepted scripture carries the truth and Jesus will speak through them all, and, mine has become an old friend whom I wouldn't wish to abandon.

Trevor -- I tried to read Pilgims Progress in regular English and gave up after a while. I've always heard it's a terrific book. It just didn't impress me.

Yes, Google Does have access to most any version a person wants.

And I'm glad yours Is a good friend for you.

Well Sue I found Pilgrims Progress fulfilling, but each to their own, and the NIV suits me, thanks for your interest. Trevor. X
