Why Don't Christians Keep the Sabbath? 2-15-24

@ rstrats -- God Created the Sabbath for Us to keep. He's not Required to do Anything.

He's not Required to do Anything.

this can be so easily misunderstood,,, do something because you want to please God should be on every believers mind. What we do will never be enough to get to heaven, yet that does not mean we do not do anything. Works is proof of our salvation that we received grace from God.

Faith, works, believing all go together. Faith is played out in what we do how we live. True belief pours out in our life and can be seen by the world, it is not just saying with your lips.

I always cringe a little when people try to separate works from faith, they go hand in hand.

No one in Christ does nothing !! its all about the reason we do something, its about pleasing and obeying our heavenly father.

@ rstats. -- sounds like you're trying to put God on our level. He's sinless. He's part of the Godhead. Eternal / sinless.
And Our trying g to keep the commandments won't save anyone. If We could keep all the commandments all the time , there would be no need for Jesus Christ dying on the cross. But our good works won't save us.

And Our trying g to keep the commandments won't save anyone
can you further explain this, it sounds like we dont even have to try to keep them, or maybe we dont even want to keep then and thats ok???

. But our good works won't save us.
can you go into this further, does this mean we wont do good works? or that good works is not part of a christian walk?

thanks

@ Dave M. -- the "he" being referred to is God and rhe Sabbath. That God created the Sabbath for us.

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable,
But he who restrains his lips is wise.

For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.....

Twistie :broken_heart:

We should be living a life that pleases God. When a person has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell them. Our desires will be different for the better. We will have the inner desire To please God.
God had a plan for every believer. Good works that He wants us to do. But those works are not to Keep our salvation. The idea is thst people should be able to see Christ in us.
You work with the Beans and Rice organization. You reach out to the homeless people with the Gospel and food. Your outreach.

@ rstrats. -- Jesus Christ is sinless because He's the 2nd person of the Godhead.

Works are actions performed or perpetrated by the Holy Spirit “through” you. It is NOT an action you performed by you yourself in order to procure salvation.
Just because you do something you feel is good means nothing as far as salvation goes. All lost people do SOME good, but still lost.
The works Christ and the Apostles speak of are derived from the fruit of the spirit.
If you have the fruit of the spirit you automatically love,be longsuffering, etc.
You don’t do good works FOR salvation, but because OF salvation

@ lentz the Sabbath is a day of the week. Look at Exodus 20 : 8 - 11.
And going back to book of Genesis 2 : 1- 3.
Lots of churches worship on Sunday because that's when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. The Lords Day.

That’s not what Hebrews says.
Christ is our Sabbath enter into His REST.
Sabbath means rest, refrain from works. Christ did it all. He is our Sabbath, again, not a day of the week

@ lentz. Context is very important. And the one doesn't over rule the other. In other words they are both correct.
