A Simple Question

Is there anything we Christians will not argue about?! No wonder it is said that Christianity is a dying religion!

There is church doctrine in the bible.
That's quick thinking, just not accurate.
The church on the first century were the disciples, they did not make doctrines. Only Christ did, we call it today Bible Doctrines.
Chuch leaders today make their own Doctrines, that is why even you made the distinction in your question "would you rather follow CHURCH doctrine OR the Bible".

There are plenty.

Just a simple question....Would you rather follow your churches doctrines or the Bible? I've gotten some interesting answers to this question.
Churches come and go but the Bible is God's living word. Between God's word and the Holy Spirit, these are the foundations not a brick-and-mortar Church. Churchs can be wonderful places to learn and practice our faith but we follow God not any teachings of man. Blessings and Peace, NC

Honest question to go along with the OP question.

It's said there are over 50 Major Doctrines found in Scripture.

Do you believe there are 2 people on this earth that totally agree in detail on those doctrines?

That was Martin Luther's BIG Mistake; thinking that nobody could read the same scriptural passage and arrive at a different conclusion than he did. At least to some extent, the Catholic Magisterium provides a doctrinal unity that is not based upon a single individual's interpretation of what he or she reads.

I was making the point that it's very likely, not impossible though, that there are no 2 people on earth who totally agree on those doctrines.

The individual must determine for themselves what those doctrines mean.

We can all get help from the Church, from the Bible, from prayer, but the bottom line is that each individual must decide for themselves.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
(2 Peter 1:20-21 KJV)

:no_mouth:

Just surprised that the Holy Spirit doesn't speak to you.

Blessings,

I can't say that you're the most negative thinking person I've ever met on the boards, but I can say that you're on the upper half of the list.

I can't understand the negative nature you often project toward others. But then again I don't think I want to understand it.

I don't believe (@Charlie24) he said either way. :)
However, this does not ensure that individuals will use the provided information in the intended manner or result as the individuals would want it to.

Ain't that the truth!

I could write a book on missed opportunities when I was shown and knew what to do, and just didn't do it!

The individual must determine for themselves what those doctrines mean.
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
(Ephesians 4:3-7 KJV)

There is one church whose dotrines follow the teachings of Jesus to the letter. Nearly all here despise that church.

It follows the teachings of the Bible completely, everything handed down by the apostles. And was appointed by Jesus though Peter. Even the parts in Scripture that tell us to call Mary the Mother of Jesus Blessed. And recieving the Eucharist in its fulness.

As what was written concerning the church Jesus started via Peter
Matthew 18:18-21 New Living Translation (NLT)
“I tell you the truth, whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.

"handed down by the apostles"
There is no record that the Apostles handed down their authority, that is a lie by church authorities.

"appointed by Jesus though Peter"
No such appointment was made, Mt 16:18 is misinterpreted.

I love such accurate Bible loving people , lol.

Which Bible are you reading by the way it will make a difference. If it's just Jehovah Witness Bible for instance it's probably not in there

I am glad you asked

In the King James Version, the scripture where Jesus tells Peter that "everything that he declares on Earth will be declared in heaven" is found in Matthew 16:19 which reads, "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.".

According to a tradition that had its rise in the latter part of the second century after Christ, we are told that Peter went to Rome until the year A.D. 42 …

Peter became the leader of the apostles and is often described as their spokesperson in the gospels.

It is widely held that Saint Peter was the first Pope of Rome. He is believed to have founded the first Church in Rome and laid the foundation for all future Popes to come. All Popes are generally considered as the successors of the Saint.

Historical records suggest that the Apostles Peter and Paul traveled to Antioch and then to Rome to preach the Word of God. These texts also suggest that after founding the Church in Rome, they appointed Pope Linus as their immediate successor. The chair used by Peter in Rome for all his sermons was preserved and celebrated for years to come in commemoration of him being the first Pope of Rome.

During the reign of Emperor Nero, a widespread fire was unleashed in Rome, for which he blamed the Christians. This led to Saint Peter’s crucifixion at a site earlier known as Nero’s Circus. He requested that he be crucified with his head pointing downwards because he didn’t consider himself worthy enough to die the same way as Jesus.

Knowing your Christian heritage helps understand why and where we are today. There are a number of Scholarly people here. Might i suggest talking with Rhema, Brad Huber, David, Bill ( the other Bill) and especially Christ4ever ( a moderator)
