Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Gifts

I would just like to say that this a very important study.I thank God that someone is interested in the gifts of the Spirit. Without his spirit they are none of his. I would advise all to follow this study, as it is important in our walk with God.
 
I'm from the UK where few people have been to a meeting that operates the gifts as detailed in the bible!

I suspect the same is true in many other countries.

Instead there is man's tradition where the minister sticks to a set script apart from his sermon, or, disorderly meetings where the gifts are used but in a confusing way, mixed with emotion and people are not sure what God is saying or doing.

To me God's commandments" (1 Cor.14:37) in this regard are plain:-
2 or 3 gifts of tongues, one at a time, each followed by a gift of interpretation; 2 or 3 prophecies, words of wisdom and knowledge ("giving the word"), gifts of faith and healing ("prayer line" with elders).

I do know one church (Revival Fellowship) that sticks to this and it works well - all are encouraged to give and receive clear input from God who dwells equally in all.
 
Unfortunately, you are right, my brother. Often, in meetings where the manifestations of God the Holy Spirit occur, it becomes at least questionable when it comes to biblical integrity. Because it is an exciting experience to see the Lord working in and through His people, its easy for it to become an emotionally-driven event, rather than action of the Holy Ghost. Sometimes the emphasis focuses on the gifts instead of the purpose for which they are given. Believers desiring the mountaintop again may even develop formulas to attempt to invoke (jump-start) the manifestations. When this happens, I am firmly convinced the results are not the actions of God at all.

God desires we bring all that we are (which includes our emotions) to Him; but when our emotions are the driving force, the result is confusion. And God is not the author of confusion.

You are right, that all the Lord does is to give Jesus preeminence. Bringing the lost to Him is doing exactly that. God the Word became flesh as Jesus, lived, died, and rose again so that the lost can be redeemed to God.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to live a holy Christian life. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are:

Wisdom - desire for the things of God, and to direct our whole life and all our actions to His honor and glory
Understanding - enable us to know more clearly the mysteries of faith
Counsel - warn us of the deceits of the devil, and of the dangers to salvation
Fortitude - strengthen us to do the will of God in all things
Knowledge - enable us to discover the will of God in all things
Piety - love God as a Father, and obey Him because we love Him
Fear of the Lord - have a dread of sin and fear of offending God

Hello Armand, this thread is about the spiritual gifts given by HolySpirit to the body of Christ. They are all listed in the first post of this thread. The things you have listed with their explainations are good but they aren't the same as the spiritual gifts. If you haven't read the thread yet, please give it a good look and feel free to comment.
 
The tongues and interpretation example Paul gives in 1 Cor 14 refers to one person speaking in tongues and another giving the interpretation. I suppose the Lord might give him/her the message in a tongue first followed by the interpretation, but it should be a rare thing.

If he/she is doing that regulatrly and often, I would be suspicious of grandstanding.

I agree; Here is Isa. 11:2 and the seven spirits of God; of course there is only one spirit.

Isaiah 11
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

I don't know. I know many people who believe, I just don't seem to be able to get back there.
 
Yes! Faith is a gift...God give's grace..."But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6 "Were saved by Grace Through Faith" Ephesians 2:8

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

The gift of faith is more specific than faith itself.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We use faith every moment based on our input and calculations predicting a certain outcome or range of possible outcomes.
An example is how confident you might be that your car will start.
You can never be 100% sure and if you haven't started it in a year that confidence percentage will drop to the point where you will envision digging out the battery charger.
It is the same with the unseen,we all believe in electricity because of the effects that it causes are commonplace.But it took a long time to understand that unseen realm to the point where it's existence could even be proven.

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Science has since proven that the seen is nothing but particles and they can't really explain what a particle is except that it is different than nothing.
One theory even suggests that there could only be one electron in the universe that has all eternity to be everywhere and everything.

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Faith is the first step but it must be based on something and in the case of God it is something unseen and illogical.
Love,hope,grace,charity and confident joy would be evidence that there may be more to the story than meets the eye.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The gift of faith would be something more than the walk of faith that all are called to.

Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
This concerns eating something that bothers your conscience but it shows the role of faith in every believers life..

From God's All Knowing Perspective...Again HE Fully Know's ALL THING'S.

God is fair and Just with Every Soul...Their free will to choose God! To Be Humble...

God Know's Every Heart...How They Would React, To Every Situation...Throughout Their Entire Life!

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

Bottom Line...We Need The Holy Spirit...Working Through Us...Being Conformed To The Image of Christ Jesus!

1Corinthians 12:1-11
1*Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2* Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3* Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4*Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5*And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7*But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8*For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9*to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10*to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11*but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Notice that there are nine different gifts listed. I find it best to group them in three different categories as follows.

The vocal inspiration gifts.
gift of tongues
gift of interpretation of tongues
gift of prophecy

The revelation gifts.
gift of word of knowledge
gift of word of wisdom
gift of discerning of spirits

The power gifts.
gifts of healing
gift of working of miracles
gift of faith

Inorder to make this as easy as possible I will make this a three part study , one for each category of the gifts. I will post them all here in this thread, starting with the vocal inspiration gifts.

Having read through the posts in this thread I can see that God is again limited to human boundaries. In other words, these are the only gifts mentioned in the Bible so this is what we must concentrate on. Christianity is so limited. I think I'm wasting my time here. I think the Creator must cringe at what human beings have done with knowledge.

The topic of discussion was the spiritual gifts listed in Corinthians 12. I don't see how you concluded that we have limited God to human boundaries. If you would like top discuss other gifts outside of the topic why not just open another thread?

I did respond and let you know where the spiritual gift of faith listed in Paul's letter to the Corinthians is contained in post #21, but I am not sure why you quoted the 1st post in your response. Can you help me understand where your coming from?
 
Hello Rawprawn, just read your bio and now I understand where your coming from. Anyone without a relationship with Jesus Christ the son of God would have trouble understanding this thread or any other thread concerning spiritual matters. You should read some of the topics here @ Seeking Jesus?
